NPCA Master Precaster® Program To Be Available in Canada Through CPCI
The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) has licensed its Master Precaster program to the Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (CPCI) to enhance educational opportunities and workforce skills within the industry. Individuals obtain Master Precaster status by completing six precast-specific courses that focus on general industry knowledge, production, safety, technical, quality control and leadership. Since its introduction in 2012, more than 400 individuals have completed the program and earned the title Master Precaster from NPCA. Beginning in 2024, CPCI will offer Master Precaster courses through a combination of in-person and web-based events. The courses can be taken in any order, but all six must be completed to acquire the Master Precaster designation.

Introducing the 2022-2023 Precast Concrete Wellness Bench Student Design Competition
The Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (CPCI) is pleased to announce the Precast Concrete Wellness Bench Student Design Competition for the 2022-2023 school year. The competition, hosted by CPCI, is a great opportunity for students to learn about precast prestressed concrete design and construction. This year’s theme is a Wellness Bench where students will be challenged to utilize precast concrete in their design. The competition is open to all students enrolled in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology programs.

CPCI launched the Precast Concrete Wellness Bench Competition for Architectural and Engineering students in October 2021 to all Canadian Universities. Students were invited to submit their projects highlighting the opportunities that precast concrete offers in terms of construction, safety, structural strength, design innovation, social value, maintenance and durability. CPCI is Pleased to Announce the Recipients of the 2021 Sonia Saari Memorial Scholarship
CPCI is pleased to award the 2021 Sonia Saari Memorial Scholarship to two deserving, hardworking and promising doctoral students: Savannah Brooke Forest, University ofToronto and Kishoare Tamanna, University of British Columbia.Under a new agreement with Mitacs, CPCI is offering two scholarships at $20,000 per year, renewable upon satisfactory approval for a second year, for a total of $40,000 each. The Sonia Saari Memorial Scholarship program is for graduate or post graduate Civil Engineering students whose studies are in the field of precast prestressed concrete related research, design or construction.
Contribute to the Canada Infrastructure Report Card Survey
The second edition of the Canadian Infrastructure Report Card (CIRC) survey was launched on October 27, 2014. This edition of the CIRC survey has been expanded to collect information on the state of municipal transit, sport and recreation infrastructure, asset management, and local bridges. The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) is soliciting abstracts for the technical sessions taking place at the 2015 Conference in Charlottetown, PEI, September 27-30.

Infrastructure Investment Becoming More Complex
Policies for dealing with Canada’s much-talked-about infrastructure deficit are moving to a new level of sophisticationand complexity–and not a moment too soon, say presenters at the annual infrastructure summit September 16 to 17 in Toronto. Organized each year since 2007 by the Toronto-based Strategy Institute, the summits present the latest thinking on infrastructure investment, renewal and rehabilitation. Elected officials, administrators and project planners discusseda range of civil infrastructure issues with special emphasis on transit, alternative funding models, innovation, sustainability and life-cycle analysis of infrastructure investment over the nexthalf century. CPCI Annual Meeting Minutes Now Available - National Harbor, MD
The CPCI Board of Directors, committees and members met in National Harbor, MD in early September in conjunction with the PCI Convention and National Bridge Conference. Li Xiaodong of China Wins the Inaugural Moriyama RAIC International Prize
A modest library on the outskirts of Beijing, China, designed by architect Li Xiaodong, has won the inaugural Moriyama RAIC International Prize. Distinguished Canadian architect Raymond Moriyama, FRAIC, established the prize in collaboration with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the RAIC Foundation. It includes a monetary award of CAD$100,000 and a crystal sculpture by Canadian designer Wei Yew. Click on the link below to read more.

Ontario municipalities alerted to safety risks and budget impacts of taller wood-frame construction
The Cement Association of Canada (CAC) is speaking out in favour of greater safety should the Province of Ontario proceed with regulations permitting taller wood-frame construction. The CAC is taking this opportunity to remind elected officials and decision makers across Ontario that taller wood buildings are not the answer to affordable housing – and simply not worth the risk.
