The Canadian Precast Concrete Institute (CPCI) is pleased to hold a workshop day in Winnipeg to discuss precast concrete building envelope & hollowcore diaphragm design. The two workshop sessions are open to developers, architects, engineers/EoR, Building Consultants, and all other AEC professionals. Attendees are free to choose which workshop they would like to participate in (morning, afternoon, or both).

Morning Workshop

High-performance Prefabricated Precast Enclosures

This workshop will review common precast enclosure wall systems: single wythe, total precast, and double-wythe sandwich panels. Attendees will explore design and practices required to achieve excellent airtightness, reliable rain water penetration resistance, and meet the high level of thermal performance demanded by current building codes. Proven solutions from the field and the building science backing them up will be presented with the aid of real project photos and copious detail drawings.

Afternoon Workshop

Hollowcore Slab Diaphragm Design

This workshop is designed for Structural Engineers of Record, Architects, Owners, and General Contractors involved in the design and construction of structures using precast concrete hollowcore slabs. With the adoption of seismic provisions in the 2024 Manitoba Building Code, this session provides practical guidance on hollowcore diaphragm analysis and design. Topics include rigid and flexible diaphragms, topped and untopped systems, complete diaphragm load paths, shear wall and bracing impacts, and typical Manitoba hollowcore connections. Example calculations will illustrate common configurations. Camber considerations and design misconceptions will also be addressed. Key CPCI reference documents, including the EOR Roles & Responsibilities Guide, will also be reviewed.
