West Village Student Condos

The Challenge

•Push the envelope on local student housing and help build a 200,000 SF, 9 storey, LEED Certified building.
•Provide a building geared to students and their lifestyle while staying close to the local colleges and universities.
•Have the building completed prior to the start of the next school year and stay within the budget.

The Project
Careful consideration had to be made of products and procedures that would be used to achieve LEED standards on the project. The precast manufacturer provided precast hollow core slabs (8”, 10” & 12”), stairs, landings and balconies, that were all chosen to help make this project attain LEED Certification. The precast manufacturer was not only able to provide these products on time, but also accelerated the project schedule to make up for a slower than anticipated start. The precast erector installed 214,000 sq ft of precast in less than a five month period. The finished project is geared toward students with amenities like game rooms, exercise rooms, study rooms and an onsite restaurant and bar.

The Triumph
The project team created a building that was cost effective for the builder, and therefore affordable for the students, by taking advantage of the environmentally friendly precast concrete products used on the project. This showed that everyone can afford to be part of the solution.
